I want to get an Xm radio. Where would you recomend I go for one? Also, is it a paid service? Meaning will I have to pay a certain amount each month or by some kind of plan?

Yes you will have to pay a monthly fee.
I'm checkin out the new edge which is 2.0 compatible. Suppose to have better audio qualety then the 1.0 receivers, and I know it gets a few more channels.
You will need to get a radio, then get a home docking kit.

I got mine at radio shack, a boom box and a radio mounted on the top. The boom box has a touch screen so be careful what they give you for a radio. Mine has switches for channel up and down and one for on and off. But I use the remote that is compatible so I can move around in the channels. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.
